Meteorite Hunting and Collecting Forum

For Discussion related to hunting and collecting of Meteorites With or Without a Metal Detector

Meteorite Forum Guidelines

There are just a few rules here and yup I do enforce them and keep an eye on things as best I can. Here are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow if you will be participating here. This forum is not moderated as heavily as the other sections so please do not enter or open a topic if you think you will be offended. If you are at least respond like an adult or we will remove your post as soon as brought to our attention.

Vulgar and abusive language is not welcome here! Heck a cuss word to get a point across is not so bad, but I think you know what I mean.

I will not host public arguments and pissing matches between individuals here so please just don't do it. When it happens the post most times will simply vanish into cyber space.

Political or Religious posts belong in "Off Topic" but surly you can find other forums that host those discussions if it is your thing, I don't think anyone cares if you are Conservative or Liberal when we are out hunting gold nuggets.

You may not use this forum to advertise any other dealer, store, or product without written permission by owner at any time. Used items are allowed in the classified section.

This forum is not responsible for anything said by it's members at any time. This is a public forum and will remain so and although I can and will occasionally zap "bad content" I don't do it often and so far have never permanently banned a person. Also opinions expressed here do not always represent the opinion of the forum's owner!

Guests are welcome to browse the forum and use the information provided by registered members, but you can not post yourself until you are a registered member.

That is pretty much it my fellow Nugget Shooters so enjoy the forum, keep it clean and play nice.

Well the rules here are a bit different as I welcome meteorites for sale you have collected or found yourself, but no store or dealer ads at any time and this includes eBay links! Naturally the main reason for this forum is education, but collecting is also a big part of this subject. So No crappy or degrading posts or they will be deleted, other than that post away!

Bill

    • Yo All... Introducing on the forum our recently moved in front gate guardians...A pair of chuckwallas ... We have gotten the larger one, Chuck, sort of tamed ... His mate, Charlene, is still a bit skittish.. They made their new home in a space between a 10 x 6 beam right next to our front door ... There's a third one about half their size that visits from time to time, but Chuck & Charlene seem to have moved in permanently ...   I was going to chop out some weeds nearby but that seems to be their main food supply ...  I was surprised to learn that chuckwallas are strict vegetarians... Also, after all these years, I learned there is no "a" in chuckwalla ... I've caught dozens of these when growing up near Death Valley ... I do like them, almost as much as I like burros, both species being childhood friends! ... These two are only half grown and more colorful than they will be after they mature... Cheers, Unc, Chuck & Charlene...Oh, and Dodacious, too!

    • Duct tape is the greatest stuff in the world when used properly for its intended purpose.. The problems arise when people try to turn it into a permanent fix for the hundreds of temporary fixes it's also capable.. Here's one of my favorite examples: Using it to fix a rip in a motorcycle seat.. Now, the adhesive formula for top-end duct tape is designed to be put in place and left alone.. It isn't meant to be futzed with.. And personally, I can't think of anything that messes with duct tape and it's adhesive more than its being sandwiched between two objects in constant motion.. Have you ever tried to remove duct tape adhesive, especially after it's been exposed to the elements..? Of course you have..! How'd that work out for ya..? Not so good, I don't suppose, right..? Actually, it's worse when still sticky.. Oh yeah, I'm sure you've tried all the supposed removal treatments too -- everything from Goo Gone and WD-40 down through acetone, lighter fluid, gasoline, alcohols and finishing at mayonaise and peanut butter.. You ever end up with anything other than an even stickier gooier mess..? I didn't think so.. Ultimately, the only solution to duct tape residue is covering it over with more duct tape.. Them inventor guys was some kinda smart, I tell ya..! Swamp PS: This has been posted in humor.. However, if you do know of something that really does work...
    • I was at the hearing.  I considered their lawyer's oral argument inept but the justices put words in his mouth.  The lawyer for the miner's side said some things that didn't need to be said but I think based upon the decision of 7-0 they had already decided the matter and it was really a moot point for them. There are still some pending decisions about mining issues in the state.  They are going to be decided by the judge in San Bernardino County.  He has been waiting for this decision so now much of the miner's fate as it relates to water mining is in his hands. More challenges are coming to dry land mining also.  There are the state lands and the new Obama Monument lands to consider.  It depends on which agency administers them.  All of these agencies can withdraw lands for mineral entry. When you hear about local hearings that will close roads, close OHV use or any land restrictions, this will put mining claims out of our reach.  The arguments against entry and use play well against us now. Let's help kids, boy and girl scouts, ... anyone who will grow up to support us.  Take your friends and neighbors out and tell them this might be the last time they can get there legally. Mitchel
    • I was going to use this for a coil cover but ... it doesn't really stick to a cover!   It sticks to itself and you can wrap it around the spokes of a coil I guess but it is a bit heavy.  I think the spray on stuff is better for a coil than this tape but the tape will be stronger than the handle you fix or the pipe you fix. It's just a funny (a little too long) commercial. Mitchel
