Hey Grubby ... I think I remember seeing a couple of those pictures in the past ... But you know it is gold and beautiful at that ... glad to see it again. Take care of that heart so you can find some more later this fall. Get healthy my friend and thanks for the gold show.

No one was posting much, so I though! I would get the blood flowing. Damned I like gold, the hunt, finding it, and the pictures. Grubstake

Did this one before, but I thought it may fit well again in this thread. Go full screen to see the amazing detail in the crystal gold

Seems like a good place to ask this question. What is the average purity of Arizona and Kalifornia placer gold (Karats)? Can that even be measured in raw form?

It's hard put an average on a state as big as California, here in the N. Motherlode an average (in my opinion) for placer would be around 90-91%, but the nice thing about my area is not much copper and a good amount of silver. That makes for a beautifull looking nugget

Down here in Mariposa, they say the gold is around 98% with copper being mostly in the gold, thats why we get the deep red tone to it, + out at whiterock, not too far from here, they did mine copper. But one thing about Mariposa gold also is its mostly crystaline, which makes for some classy gold. Grubstake

You asked about karats as well. Pure gold which is considered to be 99.999% pure is 24k ... or 90% gold is 21.6k... or 85% gold is 20.4k ... or in the case of jewery marked 18k it is 75% gold ... or 14k is about 58.33% gold and 10k is about 41.67% gold.

Hope this helps a little.
